Supervision/ FAQ
SUPERVISION:
How will Campers Be supervised during Non-Sports Hours? Our sports camps are one of the few that assures proper full time nonsport supervision. Our policy is that supervision is of the utmost importance. Others fall short in this area, we do not! No other sports camp can boast of the following supervision: Two different staffs; a sports instruction staff and a separate resident staff of non-sports counselors for 24-hour supervision, activity programming and accompaniment. We have staff working around the clock to make sure that each camper is safe, comfortable and secure in the dormitories. Camp owners and directors also reside on the premises.

MEDICAL SUPERVISION:

MB Sports Camps has an onsite nurse that lives on campus with the campers.  The registered nurse is available 24hours a day, 7 days per week.  When a camper needs more than a nurse, our doctor on call is just a 5minute drive from campus and is available at all times as well.

Our athletic trainers will be on site at all sports sessions. Our athletic trainer is there to observe & avoid any possible injuries or fatigue.  They tape ankles and wrists, ice sore muscles, make sure campers are constantly hydrated, wearing sunscreen, etc.

Q:  I am not sure if I completed the Additional Services Forms or not?

A:  You will know if you completed the Additional Services Form because you would have received an automatic response to your email address.  Do a search in your emails for my email address: maria@MBSportsCamps.com to find the email.  Or check your spam, junk mail box to make sure it did not get filtered there.

Q: I am not sure if I paid for the Additional Services I chose.

A:  If we have not received payment, we will call you or email you.  If you have not received this email or phone call then do not worry.

Q: I chose to pay by credit card over the phone but no one has called me.

A- If you did not complete the Additional Services forms yet, then please complete them now.

Q:  I signed up for camp AFTER June 20th and the Additional Services Forms say that they are due by June 20th.  What should I do?

A:  Please complete the forms anyway.  We put a time limit on the forms because Activities tend to get filled up by that date.  But we will review your forms and let you know which activities are still available.

Q:  My child is not going to attend any other activities, what is available for them to do in the Evenings?

A- Every night we have organized optional activities such as Ping Pong Tournaments, outdoor games, Wii Tournaments, etc.

A- Mall/Outlet Trips:  Please note that we often offer Mall/Outlet trips to campers who are not attending the Evening Activity.  As there are several malls/outlets within 20 minutes of the campus, the campers really enjoy going there with their friends and counselors!  The drive fee for these trips is $5 and does not have to be paid ahead of time.  We will gather all of the campers together in the evening to see if there is enough interest to make the trip.  If there is... then we will allow the campers to go to their camp bank account to withdraw the $5 fee.

Q:  Can you please confirm the activities I chose for my child?

A:  The activities you chose were sent to you via an automatic email.  If you did not receive it that means it went to your Spam/Junk.  Please check for it, and print out the email for your records.  It includes ALL of your Additional Services Choices.

Q:  I signed my child up for some activities, but did not see some of the activities for that week listed.  Why?

A:  Is your child only coming for 1 week?  If so, the Friday and Saturday activities are not available for them because they will have already signed out of camp.  The forms only show you the activities that are available based on the weeks your child is coming to camp.  If your child is signed up for multiple weeks, you will be able to sign up for the Friday and Saturday events between the weeks your child is coming, however, on their check out week- they will not be there for Friday and Saturday events of that week.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions about camp:

Q:  What kind of supervision is there off court/field/course?

Our sports camps are one of the very few that actually employs two full sets of staff.  With the additional employees, our supervision is excellent.  The non-coaching staff’s top priority is engaging the campers in fun activities and keeping them smiling off court.  Camp directors and counselor staff live in the same dorms and on the same floors as the campers.

Q: I’m concerned about my daughter staying in a dorm with boys around. What kind of separation between boys and girls will there be?

This is a very common concern, especially for parents of teenagers.  We have separate floors or "quarters" for boys and girls.  While boys and girls are allowed to visit each other’s rooms during limited free time, doors are always kept open and counselors are always standing by.  When the campers are in the dorms, we have dedicated staff members who are designated to each floor to supervise and “do floor duty.”  The campers are told the "NO- STRIKE your OUT" rule.  This means that if they close their doors when they have friends in their room, their parents will be called immediately and they could end up going home.

Q:  The brochure says that there are laundry facilities. What if my child doesn’t know how to do laundry?

All dorms are equipped with coin operated washing machines and dryers.  Please bring a handful of quarters.  If you forget, no worries, the camp bank can make change. Laundry Detergent is provided by MBSC for free. We do not expect our campers to all be familiar with using a washing machine and dryer.  Our staff will be more than happy to assist campers with their laundry.  Who knows, they may come home volunteering to do all the washes for the household!

Q: What kind of food do they serve in the cafeteria?

Curry
College
’s dining hall has a great variety of food to choose from, and does a good job of providing for any dietary needs a camper might have.  Hot dishes rotate every day; there is a fresh salad and fruit bar available at every meal, large cereal selection, cold cuts for sandwiches, and different pizza varieties.  No one has ever gone hungry!  Campers with peanut allergies should have no fear.  Peanut products are not used in the kitchen.  Additionally, the fine dining facilities at Curry College can accommodate campers that may have other special eating requests (i.e. seafood allergies, etc).

Q: How is supervision handled on field trips?

During our staff orientation, we go over very specific and detailed training regarding each one of our field trips.  Prior to leaving for a trip, counselors are assigned a group of campers that they are responsible for on that trip.  Groups can clump together (as they often do as campers make friends), but there is still one counselor whose focus is specifically on one group usually containing between 7 and 12 campers (this number varies with the number of campers going on a field trip and the type of trip).   Additionally, every camper will be paired with another camper as part of our safe “buddy-system.”  No camper is ever left on their own or unsupervised, regardless of their age.

Q: How do lights out and wake up work?

After an intensive sports training session, and then playing hard on the fun field trips, campers are pretty beat by the time lights are out at 11:00pm.  (For our young campers between the ages of 8 and 10 lights out is at 10:30).  At 10:30, we ask everyone to report to their floors to start getting ready for bed, and at 11:00 all lights are out!  All dorm room doors are left unlocked, and our counselors routinely check on campers throughout the night. Between 7:30am and 8:00am (depending upon the schedule for that day) counselors will knock on doors, yell, sing songs, clap loudly, and generally do whatever it takes to get the campers up and ready for another fun-filled day!

Q: What if my child needs medical attention during the night?

Our counselors sleep on the same floors as our campers, usually just across the hall!  They are easily accessible and will bring your child down to see the nurse and athletic trainers who also sleep in our dorms at Curry College.  There will never be a time when your child is left alone and unable to find someone to help them.  We also have a doctor on call at all times and we are located only 5 minutes from the hospital in case of an emergency.

Q: How are roommates assigned? Can my child select a roommate if they know someone at the camp?

We assign roommates based on age.  For instance, we would never place an 11 year old in a room with an 18 year old.  If your child is friends with another camper, we always do our best to put them together if requested.  Please make note on your application about a roommate request.

Q: Can my child bring food or snacks?

Often our campers like to bring some of their favorite snacks from home.  And if they don’t bring it from home, they are likely to pick some snacks up during our weekly Junk Food Journey (short field trip to the local grocery store).  There is a small kitchen in the dorms that campers are allowed to use under supervision.  They are allowed to use the microwave and refrigerator only, and they may keep food in their room.  The only time kitchen use may be restricted is when we have a problem with campers not cleaning up after themselves. One of our top priorities is keeping the dorms neat and tidy.  We have a reputation of being a respectful and clean group, and that is one we would like to maintain.

Q:  Will my child be able to have their cell phone at camp?

We allow APPROPRIATE use of cell phones at the camp.  This means that cell phones are NOT allowed on the court/field/course, or after lights out.  Campers may use their cell phones during free time.  Each dorm room has a main phone number which will be given to parents.  Counselors will listen to messages and distribute them to campers.

Q:  What kind of linens should I bring for my child?

The beds in the dorms (like most college residence halls) are extra long.  Two flat sheets or a fitted extra long sheet work well.  Linens, blankets, pillows are provided for a fee, but you are welcome to bring all of your own linens.

Q:  How much free time will my child have, and what do campers usually do with their free time?

While campers end up with a few hours of free time, it is actually amazing how busy everybody remains!  We have a ping-pong table, a large selection of movies to choose from, playing cards and games.  We seldom have a bored camper.

Q:  My child is coming for 3 weeks of Lacrosse camp, and I am worried about his pads getting really dirty.  Also, what about fungal infections?

We encourage all players to remove their pads from their equipment bags and air them out overnight. There are coin operated washing machines on campus that can fit pads (assuming the pads are machine washable). If you're child is coming for multiple weeks, they may want to wash their pads in between sessions.
