Head Pro: Phill Donkin
Having been introduced to the game of golf at the age of ten, Phill quickly ascended through the junior ranks at his home club in the U.K. This notoriety caught the attention of local colleges, and subsequently Phill received a place on the golf Roster at The Bristol Academy of Sport College, Whilst studying Sports Performance and exercise sciences (topics ranging from biomechanics, nutrition to psychology ), Phill maintained his first team position for the duration of his time at the college. Having completed his studies Phill attained an assistant professional position at The Bristol Golf Club at St. Swithins Park. Phill held this position for five years, before deciding to return to college and undertake a business degree. It was during this time that Phill, not wanting to step back from coaching golf, sought out summer employment, and for the past four years Phill has had the privilege to be apart of the MB Nike Sports Camp Team. Phill is British PGA certified coach and holds a Sports Performance & Exercise Science Diploma.
Golf Program: We know golf is an exciting, yet demanding game of strategy, skill, and persistence. That is why our camp offers an individualized structure in which campers are helped with their own specific needs such as:
Beginner to Tournament (Players 8-18): Classes are programmed for three different proficiency levels: beginners, intermediates and advanced players of all ages. Each student will be tested weekly and placed in a group of 5 of similar ability, and age. Beginners will be playing golf in just a few days; intermediates will improve all aspects of their game; and advanced players will sharpen their game to a competitive edge.
Tournament Training (Players 10-18): Our intensified program for aspiring Tournament Players is ideal for competitive players who play at a competitive level or who presently play or wish to try out for their high school or pre-high school team. Players must have at least 1-3 years of golf experience. Players will be evaluated to see if they qualify.
Golf Facilities and Training: The MBSC Nike Golf Camp takes its golfers to local area courses for course play. We make an effort to visit at least 2-3 different golf courses per week. With the large number of 18-hole courses within a 10 mile radius, there are several options.
All Golf courses are within between 5-20 minutes from Curry College.
Pace of play governs how many holes golfers will play per day. What is most important is that campers are applying what they learned on the driving range to the course play they get that day, regardless of how many holes they are able to get through. Golfers do not come back to campus for lunch in order to maximize their playtime on the course. Boxed lunches are provided for golf campers.
